It is always a huge step in the progress of a young horse/pony , in the journey through their early career under saddle - the very first official cometition!
Lucky Boy de Maïka, the 5yo old Welsh Cob / Section D stallion, made his début yesterday at the very prestigious 3 day show at Moncontour, Limoges, in the Cycle Classique Jeunes Poneys, 5 year olds. After only being under saddle for a few months, we felt that he was just ready to try his first official test, after weeks of specific preparation for this.
With the extra added pressure of being a young stallion (who has covered mares already - we have one of his sons, Orient Express de Maïka), it is always an "unknown" , to see how they will handle a real competition environment. We could not have been more pleased or proud of him! He took everything in his stride, from the collecting ring into the dressage arena.

Unfortunately, an untimely "shy" from him (we don't know what spooked him momentarily in the arena), he shot forwards during his canter movement, we think that he didn't see the white dressage boards until it was too late, so he hopped over them (maybe he fancies jumping instead of dressage!), which of course, resulted in immediate elimination from the test. So disappointing!!! - because he was going so well (and continued to do so afterwards and completed the rest of his test, thanks to the very understanding judges, who were probably also amused!).
Well, that's competing for you! His breeders / owners, Elevage de Maïka, were very happy nonetheless, to see him out at his first ever competition
