WELSH SECTION B PONIES

We are a third generation family run stud - breeding and producing the Welsh Section B pony.

Many years ago when our children were small, we were absolutely passionate about the welsh pony - in particular, the section B ponies. Many of the ponies that we had were shown successfully in hand and on the lead rein at County level shows throughout the UK.

We often discussed breeding with the ponies and in 2020, we decided to commence our breeding programme by importing several ponies from top breeders in the UK. We are very selective and we are are constantly seeking to refine what we are doing, so that we can offer our very best.

Two ponies that were very influential to us, in terms of providing us with our ideal type and in their origins, were Brookhall Dominant Air and Thistledown Corncockle. They were the ponies that provided the motivation to begin to develop the breeding programme that we are aiming for. It is still very much in the early stages because we decided to start it with young ponies - weanlings, so that we could carefully select them for type and origins - and raise them from the beginning in the way we wanted.

Our first homebred welsh foals were born in 2023 and we have been very pleased with them. Even in a very short space of time, we have had to evolve and not to repeat some of the mistakes we made when breeding other breeds in the past - with the younger ponies it is easier to identify problems sooner and to make decisions for the future with more certainty.

We aim to breed top quality,  and that makes us very stringent on what we will retain and breed with, even if it means that we do not produce a large number of foals each year.

Our main and influential reproductors have been imported directly from the UK/Wales and have been selected because of their super bloodlines, traditional type and very correct conformation - we won't accept anything less than "pretty much perfect!"

Each year we have a few foals, "quality not quantity".

If you are looking for a welsh section B pony, with proven competition origins, true to the "old fashioned" breed type, with exceptional movement, character and conformation, we could have the pony for you. Our foundation stallions and mares have been selected from top, traditional breeders with solid and proven bloodlines.

We aim to breed versatile ponies to be used for all disciplines, for every type of rider.

We decided that we would like to begin to keep a few ponies from the other sections  alongside the B's, to focus more on the ridden competitions with the cobs and to valorise them in sport. After doing alot of research into the bloodlines, in 2023, we began to look for a Section D youngster/foal to join our herd and after seeing and meeting a few of the breeders here at shows during the year, we approached one of them to ask what they had available.

We also now have one of their 2024 Section D colts who has already had alot of sucess in the show ring as a yearling.

He will continue to compete in show and in the sport valorisation classes as a 2 and 3 year old.

New for 2026, we have reserved a couple of exceptional section A foals, they will join us after weaning.
