Regional Welsh Show ~ Langon (33), south of Bordeaux

A long but fabulous day with these two boys, it was the first ever show for our yearling Section D colt - Orient Express de Maïka.

We were lucky to have slightly cooler temperatures that we have previously had in the last 2 weeks (41 degrees!), which made travelling more comfortable for the ponies, especially as it was "Thomas" first time since he was brought here to us after weaning.

This show is the furthest south that we have been to so it was good to see some new faces there, and of course to meet up with friends.

The section B and section D classes were held after the lunch break so it gave us time to prepare without eveything being a mad rush as it sometimes can be!

First in the ring was Hilin Lord Aurelius. After a busy season of covering mares we have been doing our best to try to get him back into "show condition" and he was looking quite well, if lacking a bit of topline. He was extremely pleased to be back out showing, as he always is, but he managed to contain his exuberance enough to please the judge.

He took 1st place in the Section B, 3 year old males, the judge remarked that he "is a lovely example of a Section B pony". He went on to be awarded Reserve Champion Section B, the judges eye was taken by a foal in the championship that she placed eventual Champion.

Onto the section D - our yearling, Orient Express de Maïka made his showing début and as the only one in his class, he was of course placed 1st ~ Section D , yearling males. The judge liked him alot and said she couldn't fault him and that he has super movement. To our complete surprise because there were some lovely adult cobs in the section, he was then awarded Champion Section D (Adult) - we were over the moon!

But the biggest shock of the day was yet to come! He went on to win OVERALL SUPREME CHAMPION of the whole show!!! The judge said that she just couldn't stop looking at him!

So proud of both boys today - a huge thank you to the AFPCW for once again organising another lovely show, they do an amazing job - to the judge and steward, we really appreciated and valued the great comments and feedback.
